This Week on the Campaign Trail

Today, the DNC released its latest video, “Unreleased Tax Returns,” examining this election’s greatest unsolved mystery: Donald Trump’s refusal to show the American people his returns.

For 40 years, presidential nominees from both parties have released their tax returns. Before Trump entered the race, he argued that if a candidate doesn’t release his or her returns, “you would think there is almost like something wrong.” Well, something is wrong. As our narrator observes, Trump’s stubborn refusal to release his returns – despite his prior promises to do so – has left us “stuck in the great unknown.”

If you or anyone you know has any information about the whereabouts or content of Trump’s returns, visit the DNC’s new website, https://taxesbytrump.com/.

Donald Ducks Makes His Debut, Calls on Trump to Release His Taxes

Thursday morning, Donald Ducks made his official debut in front of Trump Tower, where he called on Trump to stop ducking the issue and release his tax returns.

“What is Trump trying to hide? Is it because he’s not as rich as he says? Is it because he doesn’t donate to charity like he says? Is it because he doesn’t pay any taxes? Is it because he has foreign investments that could compromise national security? Whatever it is – there’s no excuse,” said Mr. Ducks.

Donald Ducks also appeared in North Carolina yesterday, and in Michigan and Minnesota today, and he’ll continue to trail the campaign until Trump finally releases his tax returns.

Trump Still Refuses to Pivot, Despite GOP Pleas

Despite pleas from an ever-growing number of Republicans, Donald Trump still refuses to pivot to a new campaign strategy and rein in his divisive and dangerous rhetoric – demonstrating day after day that he lacks the temperament to occupy the White House. On Sunday, during an appearance on Face the Nation, Republican Senator Susan Collins stated her refusal to support Donald Trump, saying “we need a president who has the judgment, the temperament, the knowledge, and the self-control to lead our country and to be the symbol of our country.”

Paul Manafort’s Resignation

Earlier this week, the New York Times published an eye-opening exposé on Trump’s campaign chair Paul Manafort’s ties to pro-Kremlin elements of Ukraine, raising more concerns about Trump’s foreign policy views and his fitness for office. After Manafort’s resignation was announced today, DNC National Press Secretary Mark Paustenbach released the following statement:

“Despite today’s latest staff shake-up, Donald Trump’s campaign still maintains strong ties to Russia and pro-Kremlin elements. At least a half-dozen of Trump’s remaining aides have Russian connections, and let’s not forget about his own financial interests in the region, as well as his repeated praise for Putin.”

Clinton & Biden Draw Stark Contrast with Trump in Scranton

Vice President Joe Biden joined Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail Monday to discuss the importance of having a commander-in-chief with the judgment, temperament, and experience to lead. Together, they outlined how Trump is obviously unprepared and unfit to protect our nation, and how a Trump presidency would make Americans less safe.

Take a look at the highlights of Biden and Clinton’s speeches:

Joint DNC Statement on the Fourth Anniversary of DACA ImplementationAlso on Monday, DNC Chair Donna Brazile, DNC Hispanic Caucus Chair Iris Martinez, DNC Vice Chair Maria Elena Durazo issued the following joint statement on the fourth anniversary of the implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigration policy:

“The lives of hundreds of thousands of DREAMers changed dramatically four years ago today when the Obama administration implemented DACA. For the first time in their lives, these vibrant and talented young people – who have grown up in this country and call it home – could finally pursue their dreams without worrying about the threat of deportation . . . The fact remains, however, that we need a pathway to citizenship to help all of those living in the shadows. That’s why we need to elect leaders up and down the ballot who understand the critical importance of passing comprehensive immigration reform. . . Unlike Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton is committed to introducing immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship within her first 100 days in office, and she will continue defending DACA and DAPA from partisan attacks.”

Important Polls

  • According to a poll by Pew Research Center, 43% of registered voters think that Donald Trump would make a “terrible” president. More than half (55%) of respondents think that there is a “big” chance that Trump would make mistakes as president that would harm the country.
  • According to a poll by NBC News and SurveyMonkey, only 17% of voters (and just over a third of Republicans) believe Trump has the “personality and temperament” to serve as President. Only 16% of all voters, and 35% of Republicans, said that he is “honest and trustworthy.” Sixty-four percent of voters reported negative feelings toward Trump.
  • According to a poll by Bloomberg Politics/Morning Consult, a majority of voters oppose Trump’s recent proposal to reduce the income-tax rate for the wealthiest Americans. Almost two-thirds of voters surveyed said they support higher tax rates for higher incomes.
