WASHINGTON – Tomorrow, Republican nominee Donald Trump will give an address on national security. We don’t know if he’ll double down on his reckless views on nuclear weapons, or his openness to abandoning our commitment to our NATO allies, or his suggestion that Russia should commit espionage against the United States, or his absurd and dangerously false accusation that President Obama and Secretary Clinton “founded” ISIS.
But here’s what we do know: Republicans and military leaders have been sounding the alarm on the idea of Trump as Commander-in-Chief.
Earlier this week, 50 Republican national security figures penned a letter declaring that Trump “lacks the character, values, and experience” to lead the country, and “would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being.” Many Republican elected officials – not to mention voters – have declared their opposition to Trump on the same grounds.
These sentiments were echoed in a video that aired on the third night of the Democratic Convention, which features many Republicans and national security figures questioning Donald Trump’s judgment, and agreeing that he is too reckless to lead the United States.
