While Democrats are committed to curbing the economic and human toll that climate change is already taking on our country, Republicans running for president continue to ignore the science and deny that climate change is man-made, or even exists. Under the leadership of President Obama and Congressional Democrats, we’ve made strides in protecting America’s natural resources, and ensuring the quality of our air, water, and land for future generations. We’ve bolstered FEMA to better respond to natural disasters, and we’ve provided unprecedented federal support quickly and efficiently to states affected by extreme weather, such as wildfires, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes and droughts. And we’ve taken steps to reduce the threat from carbon pollution by investing in clean energy sources, increasing wind and solar by 248 percent. Democrats have also embraced the economic opportunities and job creating benefits of reducing America’s carbon footprint, whether for those building advanced materials for wind and solar farms, retrofitting buildings and homes with better insulation and solar panels, and increasing the production of advanced technologies like renewable batteries. We need to continue to elect leaders who not only support policies based in scientific fact but who understand how to invest in our country and in our people to better confront the threats ahead, and build on the progress our country has made.
