In 2008, Mitt Romney got the hint and took the opportunity at CPAC to drop out of the presidential race. It’s probably time for some of the GOP’s 2016 candidates to do the same.
Let’s remember where Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, John Kasich, and Ben Carson stand in the race for the nomination: nowhere. Donald Trump has amassed over 220 delegates and has now won 11 out of 15 states in the race for the Republican nomination.
“The bottom line is that no Republican nominee in modern history has captured their party’s nomination without winning at least one or more of the early states like Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina or the majority of the Super Tuesday states. It’s clear after last night’s results that the Republican establishment must accept Trump’s inevitable victory and CPAC seems like the perfect time for the remaining to field follow in Romney’s footsteps and close up shop.” – DNC National Press Secretary Mark Paustenbach
