DNC Statement on Trump’s Business Conflicts
In an interview on Fox News Sunday today, Chris Wallace asked Donald Trump if his business ties pose a “huge conflict of interest,” citing Trump’s apparent decision to keep his stake in his business. In response, Trump said he would have nothing to do with his business and then immediately contradicted himself, saying his children (some of whom are also advising his administration) would run the company, and making the shocking admission that he has been involved in considering a billions dollars’ worth of deals in the weeks since the election.
DNC Communications Director Adam Hodge released the following statement:
“Donald Trump and his family have made clear that they have every intention of using the presidency to enrich themselves, and yet he continues to try to deceive the American people by insisting that he can keep his business and avoid conflicts of interest. Today, he even made the shocking admission that he has been considering a billion dollars’ worth of deals as President-elect. If Trump truly cares about protecting the presidency from conflicts and keeping his promise to fight self-enrichment in Washington, he has only one option: to liquate his assets and place them in a blind trust. Otherwise, Trump will begin his presidency with a staggering list of conflicts of interest and an enormous potential to personally enrich himself by abusing the power of the office. The American people deserve a president who works for the people – with Trump, they’re getting one who works for himself.”
