Chris Christie Calls for Reexamination of Birthright Citizenship

Today Laura Ingraham asked New Jersey Governor Chris Christie about his position on the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, or “Birthright Citizenship.”  The 14th amendment states unequivocally that “All persons born or naturalized in the United States…are citizens of the United States.”

Ingraham:  What is your view on that issue [birthright citizenship]?

Christie:  “I think all this stuff, Laura, needs to be reexamined in light of the current circumstances … While that may have made some sense at some point in our history, right now we need to relook at all that.”

“First, every major Republican candidate for president opposed President Obama’s plan to keep immigrant families together.  And now, Christie wants to lead the GOP’s race to the bottom and bring it to a whole new low – by taking away the rights of newborns babies born to immigrant parents.  Hispanics deserve, and have demanded, better candidates from the GOP – clearly, to no avail.”   - Pablo Manriquez, DNC Hispanic Media Director
